Shoppers must now look through the window, spot the items they want, and then ring a bell to be served through a small hatch in the door. But I am a man of principles, and I stand by my decision!

That storekeeper had lost sight of his mission! There are other ways to say it. To glorify God is to exalt Him or make Him look good as He truly is. The four Gospels plus the Book of Acts have different versions of this commission, showing that Jesus repeated it for emphasis in various forms:. You are witnesses of these things. Hoping to visit the church in Rome, he wrote Rom.

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. Now I make known to you, brethren, the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I preached to you, unless you believed in vain.

For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures …. Also, Paul emphasized the centrality of the gospel in founding the church in Thessalonica:.

In this message, I can only make three observations about our mission of proclaiming the gospel:. And if Paul needed clarity and boldness, how much more do we! Satan, the master deceiver, has always tried to muddy the water when it comes to the gospel. The infection has continued down through church history. In our day, there are multiple errors concerning the gospel.

A Disciples Reward – Matthew 19:27-30

Many who profess to follow Christ, as well as most of the cults, muddy the gospel as the Judaizers did by adding human merits or good works to faith in Christ as the requirement for salvation. Come to Jesus! And, the church has always been plagued by various forms of legalism, which make salvation contingent on keeping certain rules that the Bible does not command.

So we must be clear on the gospel and make that vital message clear to those whom Satan has blinded. Jesus Christ, who is God in human flesh, died in the place of sinners, bearing the penalty we deserve John ; ; Rom. The Great Commission extends to the whole world because Jesus is the Savior of the whole world John ; ; They will glorify God before His throne forever and ever Rev.

So the church should be committed to the cause of world missions.

Rather, it is passionate zeal for the glory of God. Add to Cart. Have an Access Token? Enter your access token to activate and access content online. Paul put it this way in 1 Cor. Since salvation is only possible with God, then it can come to you and me. Peter picks up on the fact that the rich young ruler received nothing because he was not willing to give up anything. Now Peter wants to know what this means. Jesus had told the rich young ruler that if he would leave everything and follow Him, he would have treasure in heaven.

Peter wants to know what treasure in heaven there would be for him and the others. Peter is speaking here on behalf of all the disciples, and the first thing to understand about the disciples is that they had left everything that would have been important to most people.

Though they were at their homes some of the time, for a large portion of the three years that they followed Jesus they were away from home in other parts of Galilee, down in Judea and Perea and even out of Israel way up Tyre and Sidon. Much of that time was away from family as well as their normal means of income.

A Disciples Reward – Matthew 19:27-30

But lets be sure we understand that God does not owe us and will never owe us. All that we receive from Him is because of His grace, not our merit — all our righteousness is as filthy rags in His sight Isa. Yet, God is pleased to give rewards to His children. The disciples valued Jesus and willingly left everything to follow Him.

What was their reward? The second part applies to all who meet the conditions. Peter had correctly understood the conditions of inheriting eternal life. It is not in purchasing it by giving everything else up, because that is only a consequence of meeting the condition.

Notice that Jesus does not give a blanket statement covering all the disciples. Leaving everything behind did not qualify for a reward unless the reason for doing so was to truly follow Jesus.

25 Important Bible Verses About Discipleship

Judas had also left everything and was physically following Jesus, but his heart was not. That fact comes out in his stealing from the money bag John and his selling out of Jesus for 30 pieces of silver Matt But aside from Judas, the other disciples did follow Jesus from their hearts trusting Him as young children trust their dads. That is why they were part of the kingdom, their leaving everything was a consequence of their following Jesus.

Sacrifice and Reward

And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of the testimony of Jesus and because of the word of God, and those who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received the mark upon their forehead and upon their hand; and they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years. The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were completed. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with Him for a thousand years.
